The auction of the French-inspired Winnetka chateau Le Grand Reve didn’t go as well as expected for the estate’s owners, in an update on the mansion’s auction that took place on October 29th.
The mansion was previously listed for $32 million – a record high for the Chicago area. Owners Sherwin and Deborah Jarol attempted to sell the 26-room, 25,000 square-foot estate in an auction with no minimum bid price. Although multiple bids were made on the estate, the Jarols “decided not to confirm the high bid,” said Kari Neering, a spokesperson for Concierge Auctions.
The Jarols negotiated with the high bidder for more than a week without any results. This past Wednesday, Neering said, the Jarols rejected the bid, which remains at an unspecified amount. The six-bedroom mansion complete with a two-story rotunda and a Tiffany-stained dome, continues to stand on the market.
