Baird & Warner Managing Broker Becomes Full-Time Writer

by Chicago Agent

Scott Gill, former full-time managing broker for Baird & Warner’s Winnetka branch and part-time author, has decided to switch up his priorities. On Monday, Steve Baird, CEO, announced that Gill is putting real estate on hold to pursue a full-time career as a writer and author.

“Scott’s decision was bittersweet for us,” says Laura Ellis, general sales manager for Baird & Warner. “Saying farewell to Scott is hard, but we would never stand in the way of someone following their dreams.”

Gill first joined the Baird & Warner Winnetka team in 2007, and has been operating in the residential real estate market for 20 years. Aside from managing the Winnetka office, Gill has co-authored the award-winning architectural monograph, “Kentucky Houses of Stratton Hammon” with Winfrey Blackburn Jr. As he and Blackburn prepare for the release of their second book and begin plans for a third, Gill has decided to step down from his position at Baird and Warner and dedicate his full attention to his writing career.

“I’ve made the decision to retire from real estate brokerage sales and management, and to pursue my other big passion in life: architecture and architectural history,” said Gill. “About five years ago, I gave birth to my first baby, a book called ‘Kentucky Houses of Stratton Hammon.’ Next week, number two arrives, ‘Country Houses of Louisville, 1899-1939.’ And a third, ‘The Architecture of Frederic Morgan,’ has just been conceived.”

Replacing Gill as managing broker of the Winnetka office will be Chris Smith, former manager of the Evanston office. Smith’s position at Evanston has been filled by David Bailey, former assistant manager of the Lincoln Park office.

“We wish Scott all the best in his new career and we have every confidence in the abilities and talents of Chris Smith and David Bailey,” Steve Baird said.

Gill will not be completely absent from the real estate world, however. As part of the B&W Referral Associates Network, Gill will keep his license with Baird & Warner, and has agreed to act as a consultant for occasional special projects with the company.
