Aqua Tower Receives Second Prix Award

by Chicago Agent

Aqua tower at Lakeshore East received its second Prix d’Excellence International Design Award from the International Real Estate Federation, making it one of only 13 buildings in the U.S. to achieve a Prix award.

The Prix d’Excellence award is an international award created in France that is given to projects that show excellence at every stage of their creation. Projects are evaluated by their design, construction, benefit to the community, environmental impact, ease of facilities management, financial visibility, marketing strategies and lifestyle improvement for its occupants.

The 87-story tower was one of only two in the U.S. to receive an award in this years Prix Residential High-Rise category. Aqua also earned the 2008 Prix award and holds the 2008 American Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design.

Aqua’s award-winning design, created by architect Jeanne Gang, is produced from outdoor balconies and terraces of different shapes and sizes, which flow like ocean waves.

Gang has received highly-esteemed international design awards including the 2009 Skyscraper of the Year Award from Emporis, the international building database, beating more than 300 competitors worldwide.

Aqua is one of the fifth tallest buildings in the world and is one of seven structures that make up the 28-acre Lakeshore East community.

Aqua will ultimately be home to up to 15,000 residents, businesses and merchants. Floors four through 18 will be created into a Radisson Blu hotel, while floors 19 to 52 are apartments and floors 53 to 81 are condos. All units are available to rent or buy and the condos range from studios to three-bedroom units.

Aqua’s amenities have been compared to world class resorts. Their Shore Club includes two floors of outdoor and indoor entertainment and recreation features such as the largest outdoor pool and hot tub, running track, gazebos and poolside cabanas, fire pit, barbecue area and wireless Internet.

Indoors you will find a fitness facility, basketball court, indoor pool and lap pool, a spa, sauna, steam and massage room, private club suites with catering kitchens, sky garden lounge, media room, billiards and game area and business center.

The building was built to eco-friendly LEED standards with an 80,000-square-foot roof garden and public electric car-charging stations in their all-underground parking garage. Aqua was developed by Megellan Development Group, which specializes in green, luxury high-rise condominiums in urban locations.

The only other 2011 U.S. Prix award winner is Liberty Station, a Corky McMillin Companies development in San Diego.
