Winthrop Club Goes for Gold

by Chicago Agent

Winthrop Club in Evanston is on its way to being named the greenest residential high rise in Illinois, and only one of six in the country to earn LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building’s Council, according to the developer.

The 15-story condominium building had previously met the requirements for LEED Silver certification, but modifications to the lobby and the addition of green power, both during construction and for the common building systems, allow Winthrop Club to be certified LEED Gold.

The development earned points for the certification in a variety of phases, from the reduction of water consumption using low-flow plumbing fixtures to green roofs landscaped with native Illinois plants. In total, the design of Winthrop Club will meet 46 criteria for the Gold certification, including seven that are mandatory for any LEED building.
