When Drew Boland first started in mortgage lending, he didn’t even know what a mortgage was. He had just finished college when a family connection led him to an apprentice role at a boutique lender. “It seemed like a good opportunity to learn a business, get some professional experience for a few years and figure out what was next,” he says. Twenty-one years later, he’s still doing the work and still learning. “It teaches you so much about life: markets, investments, taxes, credit ratings, insurance and risk assessment,” he adds.
Boland works entirely by referral, with clients and agents who return because they trust his communication and follow-through. In 2023, he helped nearly 200 buyers close on homes during a year that was difficult for many. He also formed new working relationships with 12 real estate teams. That kind of trust, he says, is something he’s proud of.
Over the years, Boland has helped buyers in different markets across the country. His experience with varying tax rules, title fees and regional differences helps him walk clients and agents through what to expect. “I’ve been through major market swings,” he says. “I’d like to say I’ve seen it all, but no one really can.”
A top-percentage mortgage originator in America in Mortgage Executive Magazine, he is also a 17-time recipient of his company’s President’s Club award and a five-time Chairman’s Circle honoree. In his personal time, he goes mountain biking, does snowboarding and supports people in addiction recovery.
