A responsive, professional who leads with service, Jeffrey Marks is always eager to help and educate his clients. He previously worked in the video game industry as a producer and designer. Marks regularly dealt with attorneys in this capacity, negotiating contracts relating to the games he was helping develop. “I started practicing law as a litigator, which has helped me become a much better real estate attorney because I understand what can happen when things go wrong,” says Marks. When he decided to become an attorney himself, he aimed to do something different. An anomaly among lawyers, he offers flat rates, is available to brokers and clients day and night, and strives to bring fun and levity to his transactions.
Specializing in all areas of real estate transaction law, Marks has served buyers and sellers throughout the Chicago metro area for the past decade. His clients come mostly through agent referrals and mirror Marks’ own description of his work style by describing him as kind and funny, but a bulldog when necessary. With firm attention to detail, he efficiently steers each transaction. From his initial preparation and setting of expectations and through closing, his clients often thank him for being thorough and communicating with them in a way that helps them understand what they are signing.
Marks leads a team of three full-time paralegals — each with more than 20 years of legal experience, and has received the Illinois SuperLawyer award for the past four years in a row. “This is a peer nominated award and not something you pay for. This means a lot to me and shows me that other attorneys respect my work,” he shares. Entrenched in his profession, he is also a member of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association.
