For six years, Mike Wolson has specialized in helping clients relocate from Chicago to its western suburbs. Named among America’s top real estate agents in 2021 by REALTrends, Wolson wore multiple hats before becoming a broker. As an attorney, he honed his communication and strategic skills. His prior ownership of an executive recruiting firm sharpened his negotiation abilities and other instrumental talents. “The core skill set of listening and understanding client concerns and strategizing how to solve problems is one that comes very natural to me,” he says.
Having lived in both the city and the suburbs, Wolson is knowledgeable on the attributes of different Chicago neighborhoods and how these areas are conducive to family and work-life balance. Not wanting to be beholden to a single community, he’s worked to understand the nuances of each market and is positioned to provide a broad landscape of choice to his clients. Often working behind the scenes to locate ideal properties that aren’t yet listed, his clients take note of his determination to find them the right home. Wolson likes to have fun while meeting client expectations, however. Though his style is straightforward and candid, it can also be characterized by his ability to find the humor in a situation and love for his craft. He notes, “Part of the reason I like this profession so much is the impact I can have by helping others. To me, it’s not just about the sale.”
Most of Wolson’s clientele come through referral. He works with many corporate clients, helping their candidates in the interview process gain a better understanding of what a move to the Chicago area would look like for their family. His career success and quality network underscore the importance of enjoying one’s work. “I just really like what I do for a living, and I think that comes through in my interactions with others, which probably explains why so many former clients have become lifelong friends,” Wolson says.
