Gail Spreen was a competitive curler for most of her life, playing the sport at an Olympic level and representing Illinois nationally. Today, she brings the same competitive spirit she garnered from curling to the real estate industry.
As senior vice president of sales for Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty, Spreen works with a variety of clients on a daily basis — buyers and sellers, landlords, investors and empty nesters looking for a change are among her typical clients. She began her career in the industry working in real estate development with Draper and Kramer, MCL Companies and Terrapin Properties. “Then I decided to open my own real estate office and sell the Streeterville neighborhood instead of selling an individual development,” she says.
Spreen has managed to have a strong sales year despite working in an unpredictable market. During this past year, she transferred her business from Related Realty to Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty after Related closed its brokerage arm. She has also overcome the challenge of moving offices twice since 2017. Through each move, she steadily maintained her top-notch service to clients. “My team also made both moves remaining mostly intact,” she says. “That’s quite impressive in the world of real estate agents who are incredibly independent.”
Spreen has received many sales awards and community impact awards throughout her career. Recently, Crain’s Chicago Business featured Spreen on its cover for her community service and impact on developments through her work with the city and aldermen.
Outside work, Spreen is involved in a variety of volunteer and community organizations. Already an active board member of the Magnificent Mile Association, she recently became chair of the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, which is the third largest parade in the country. She is also on the boards of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents, Chicago Association of Realtors and Streeterville Chamber of Commerce.
Spreen’s passion for her neighborhood continues to fuel her career. “I want to bring residents, new and old, together as neighbors and foster community in Streeterville,” she says.
