Helping clients during one of the most important stages of their lives is what keeps Melissa Govedarica’s career in real estate fresh and exciting. “It’s what keeps me striving to look for new business,” she says.
Govedarica, a broker who works with Sergio & Banks Real Estate in the Chicagoland area, holds a master of science degree in real estate. Her business is primarily based on past clients, referrals, and developers and builders of residential new construction. “No client is too big or too small to work with,” she says. Her biggest sales accomplishment this past year was closing out three large new construction developments that set a precedent for pricing in their locations.
She is most proud of learning to say no when needed and using her time more productively by allocating tasks to others without micromanaging the process. “The end result allowed me to concentrate on landing new builders and clients, building the business for myself and company at Sergio & Banks,” she says.
During the past decade, Goverdarica has consistently placed among the top 1 percent of Realtors in the Chicago Association of Realtors. This year, she won the CARLY for Platinum Individual sales. “This was as much a personal accomplishment as professional,” she says. Preferring a personal touch, her favorite method of marketing properties is by making phone calls.
A founding member of the NAR Green designation, Govedarica’s knowledge of sustainable materials in green building gives clients who want to reduce their carbon footprint an edge. They like her strong work ethic, professionalism and negotiation skills. “I have been told no one has directed them the way I do,” she says. “Even if it’s hard to say or difficult to approach a subject, I will get it done.”
In her spare time, Govedarica has been able to make time for golf lessons, travel and gardening.
