Hilary O’Connor will travel far and wide for her clients and never turns down an opportunity to help someone bring their real estate dreams to fruition. O’Connor is the vice president of sales for Barbara O’Connor & Co. of Dream Town Realty, and works with everyone from first-time buyers and seasoned sellers to high-end clients and investors. “It is really important for me to have a diverse book of business,” she says. “Working with a variety of clients allows me to weather the storms, so to speak, in ever changing markets. I never want a client to pigeonhole me as a certain type of agent because you never know what their next real estate transaction will include or whom they know and can refer to you.”

Prior to becoming a full-time Realtor, O’Connor was an attorney, first as an assistant attorney general for the State of Illinois, then as an associate attorney for a private law firm. “I made the leap because I wanted to be a part of the happy moments in people’s lives,” she says. “I love the interpersonal relationships that are built throughout a real estate transaction. This was missing in my law career.” That isn’t to say that her time spent in and around the courtroom wasn’t invaluable. O’Connor attributes her ability to hone in on problems quickly, concisely and get straight to the point to her legal studies and career.

From 2016 to 2017, O’Connor doubled her volume, thanks to increasing her networking efforts and engaging with friends and old clients. “I think open communication and honesty are absolutely necessary for a successful relationship, both personally and professionally,” she says, adding that being a direct communicator and compassionate professional has led to successful transactions and referrals.

O’Connor is an active volunteer in her neighborhood ward organization, and when not out with clients, spends all the time she can with her husband and four sons. “They are my most important job!” she says.
