Construction has begun at New West Realty’s 1555 Wabash, a contemporary midrise in the South Loop. The building is expected to be completed in 2008, with first move-ins slated for summer 2008.

1555 Wabash was designed by Jonathan Splitt Architects. According to the architect, the design reflects the influence of both the international contemporary design movement of the 1920s and 1930s and today’s emphasis on energy efficiency. The low-E glass that makes up a majority of the exterior is a greenish color, giving the building an airy quality.
Terrie Whittaker, president of sales and marketing, says that the large windows that give the building its glossy appearance from the exterior maximize the views from inside the homes.
She also adds that the floor plans themselves are just as modern as the design of the building. All homes feature an open living area and kitchen with islands or peninsula counters, per plan. Many homes also offer a built-in tech center, while select floor plans have curved and diagonal walls, which, according to Whittaker, add visual interest to the layout.
People interested in the construction progress of 1555 Wabash are invited to the onsite sales center to view the site and learn more about the development. To visit, take Roosevelt Road to Wabash Avenue and go south to 16th Street. Turn left on 16th and the center is on the left. The sales center is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
