Going New Skool

by Chicago Agent

I’m an old school kind of Agent X. I like my Wu Tang Clan, Bob Dylan and my standard sales transactions. I resisted all that new fangled stuff like short sales and REOs for as long as I could. Yes, of course I know those things aren’t really new, it’s just that now every other transaction has some sort of annoying twist to it. So I did my best to lay low and ignore the calls from clients who were having financial troubles, and then I learned something extremely interesting: you can make money on those things!

To quote one of the least annoying new schoolers Young Jeezy, “Go hard or go home,” and that’s what I did. I’ve got my SFR, CDPE and CPR designations all wrapped up and now I’m the foreclosure master of a location to be named later. Here’s the kicker, my clients were so happy with the way that I helped them out of a pickle, they handed out my name like chocolates to others. Thanks to foreclosures I’m heading to Belize for Thanksgiving. I think I still prefer my rap to be old school, but I’m open to suggestions on that front as well.

Hey, anyone else see all those Shangri-la Waterview signs finally coming down over the weekend? Tried to be sneaky about it, but nothing gets past me. Nothing!

Terrapin – now there is a name we haven’t seen in a while – lost their foreclosure suit for their Longboat Key, Fla., project and now owes $22.5 million. Food for thought, a terrapin is a turtle, just like a hokie is a turkey.

The Spire has left the building! Facing eviction, Shelbourne Development Group has left their Wacker Drive office. After trying to raise over $1 billion in investments, you wouldn’t think $27,600 worth of unpaid rent is a lot.

Sandesh Bilgi has also left the building, as he has ditched Jameson to pursue his own new venture that he hasn’t revealed just yet, clearly in an effort to annoy me because there is nothing I hate more than waiting.

More moving and shaking, as Penny Sirott is now the director of RANWC, and she is still co-manager at CB in Arlington Heights. If you see her, ask for a penny for her thoughts.

The Prime Group’s new JW Marriot hosted the opening of its new restaurant, The Florentine, on Nov. 9 with a room full of people who were approached to get in on the hotel deal and ran for the hills instead. Look for photos of the new hotel in our future My Styles!

The Lincoln Park Builders held their annual forum on Nov. 11 at Germania Place with the usual room full of suits. Two developers spent a good portion of the event comparing photos of their pooches.

Dream Town toasted their Lincoln Square office opening and new managing broker Barbara O’Connor on Nov. 11 with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. The walls are decorated with winning photos from that recent contest they held, making the losers feel that much more defeated.

Coldwell Banker was recognized with the Spirit of Youth award at the National Runaway Switchboard Annual Benefit at The Dream Home in the Mart on Nov. 12. Perhaps the spirit of youth will lead to the fountain of youth.

Del Webb’s Sun City in Huntley hosted a VIP luncheon on Nov. 16 at the project with Portillo’s and year-end incentives. Nothing like dogs and deals!

The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate’s Ninth Annual Real Estate Gala was held on Nov. 18 at the Four Seasons Hotel where they recognized Goldie B. Wolfe Miller. I was almost blinded by the glitter, but I made it out alive.

Weichert First Chicago hosted a networking event at Kenmore Live Studio also on Nov. 18 where guests snarfed hors d’oeuvers, wine, beer and received a Kenmore cooking demonstration. I don’t cook so I spent more time drinking and eating the goods instead.

If you see a new guy hangin’ with the CA crew wearing a nasty Michigan hat, that’s our new victim, Paul Nelson (no relation to Kevin.) Be sure to give him a wedgie when you see him.

Birthdays! Steven H. Baumann celebrates with Luther, the office mascot, on Nov. 19. Luther will be turning 4, so I’m guessing Baumann has some years on him. Rosie Bartolotta will celebrate on Nov. 29, the day before our editor Zipporah will get yet another year older on Nov. 30. Terrie Whittaker will get jiggy on Dec. 2, and Erin Mandel will turn the big 3-0 on Dec. 3. Kevin Dembinsky will eat cake on Dec. 4. Happy turkey day everyone!
