Shaun Moskalik and Lauren Traficanto bring nearly 30 years of combined experience to their team at the Home Discovery Team at BHHS, and it shows: In 2015, the team brought in $120 million in sales. Both members of this duo entered the profession while in college, driven by a passion for helping people buy and sell homes. They also understand that every client’s needs and budget are different, and appreciate working with a wide variety of clients.
Moskalik majored in finance and minored in business administration at Loyola University. When he graduated, he was confident in the career path he’d already charted. “I started working at Jennifer Mills Klatt’s Home Discovery real estate company while I was in college and I was hooked from the start,” he remembers. Fast forward 19 years: Moskalik remains with
the firm, which Berkshire Hathaway has since acquired. Over his career, he has witnessed market shifts firsthand. “I’ve seen a lot of agents come and go, and switch from brokerage to brokerage, but I’m proud to say that I’ve remained consistent in my career and my company.” Moskalik’s career has equipped him with the problem-solving skills to support clients’ needs, especially the challenges buyers face in today’s market. “The current challenge my clients face is a lack of inventory for everyone who wants
to buy a piece of Chicago,” he says, but refers to his strong relationships with colleagues as a boon in dealing with that issue: those connections mean his buyers are often among the first to view properties new to the market.
A Roosevelt University graduate, Traficanto entered the real estate profession eight years ago as a student. “I’ve always been drawn to a career that’s fast-paced and entrepreneurial yet allows for professional and personal growth,” she explains. With specialties in luxury and new construction properties in locations spanning from the South Loop to Uptown, she is especially skilled in creating aggressive marketing strategies that earn sellers a premium price and ensure a smooth transaction. “I make sure I understand the current value of every property I work with, so I strive to get the highest return possible for the homes I list,” she says. Her client relationships hold special meaning for her; for Traficanto, connecting with others is the most rewarding aspect of her real estate career. Many of the individuals she has helped over the years have become close friends, and she finds that her buyers and sellers frequently come back to her when they are ready to upgrade, downsize or invest in property.
Chicago’s ever-changing skyline, its eclectic neighborhoods and people inspire Moskalik. He also finds inspiration in the course of supporting organizations like Communities in Schools and Legal Aid. Both agents agree that after working together for over six years the key to a successful partnership is constant communication with each other. “Our firm is small yet dynamic, and the most important thing we do is make certain our clients are happy and satisfied,” Moskalik says. His teammate echoes that sentiment. “I always say if opportunity doesn’t knock, then build a door!” laughs Traficanto. “Ours is a door-making business because we make great things happen for our clients, no matter what!”
