For nine years running, Chicago has been named the No. 1 big city in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler.
The esteemed travel magazine’s 38th annual Readers’ Choice Awards garnered a staggering 757,109 votes, and yet again, the Windy City wound up on top, ahead of No. 2 San Francisco, No. 3 Milwaukee, No. 4 Portland, Oregon, and No. 5, New Orleans.
Condé Nast described Chicago as a “world-class destination known for its impressive architecture, first-rate museums, brilliant chefs and massive brewing scene,” adding that “it’ll take several repeat visits to get through your list of must-dos.”
The publication recommended visitors start downtown and hit internationally known neighborhoods like the Magnificent Mile, the Gold Coast and Old Town but save plenty of time for the rest of the city, which boasts 77 distinct neighborhoods to explore and “some of the most pleasant people you’ll find anywhere.”
