A Naperville home has sold for just over $8 million at auction, marking the most expensive sale in DuPage County history. It’s also the most expensive home ever sold at auction in the Chicago metro area.

Located at 222 W. Van Buren Ave., the 17,600-square-foot home sits on eight sprawling acres and was built in 2019 by previous owner Jane Brooks and her late husband, Don Brooks. Between acquiring and developing the land, it cost them a total of $15 million to create.

The finished product was designed by Chicago-based Cook Architectural Design Studio and features a gym, studio, swimming pool and outdoor kitchen. Interiors by Tracy Hickman, another local designer, reflect a Coastal style.

“It’s a really special property, what the Brooks created. I’ve never been in anything like it. Walking in, it feels like a peaceful spa,” said Katie Minott of The Kim and Katie Group, with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate.

The Kim and Katie Group oversaw the sale, representing Brooks; Concierge Auction handled the auction, which took place online Nov. 16. There were three bidders total, and Minott felt the auction was overall successful.

“For the price the buyers bought it for, you couldn’t build that quality of home. And by getting the highest price in DuPage Country, the seller also did very well,” she told Chicago Agent.

Minott also expressed excitement over participating in the sale with her business partner Kim Marino. “Just the fact we got to be a part of this property’s history and legacy was thrilling … We’re local agents and [using] local representation doesn’t always happen at this price point.”

“We were grateful to be a part of the process,” she said.
