Chicago’s luxury real estate redux

by Timothy Inklebarger

Luxury homebuyers are reversing course on their flight to the suburbs and returning to the city — and with them, they’re bringing a whole new list of must-have amenities. Turnkey residences are at the top of the list, along with more outdoor space, according to the agents we spoke with in this month’s cover story. Our expert sources also walk us through some of the more nuanced services high-end buyers are expecting and how those preferences differ between millennial, Gen X and baby-boomer homebuyers. Which neighborhoods are the hottest? We’ve got you covered on that one, too.

Maybe you’ve never worked in the luxury market but you’d like to learn more about chasing those high-end clients. Michael LaFido, a luxury real estate coach and founder of the LUXE Designation, offers some solid tips on how to get started in this month’s Top Coach column. One way to grow your luxury business is by working as a successor to a retiring agent and taking over their book of business. We do a deep-dive on the topic of succession in this month’s Real Issues feature. We also hear this month from North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® (NSBAR) CEO Jeff Lasky in our monthly Association News column, where he discusses the technological advances the association has made over the last few years.

Do you have a fresh take on how things work in Chicago’s luxury real estate market? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Contact us at Tim.Inklebarger@agentpublishing.com.
