Southward expansion for @properties, Compass nets new team and more

by Andrew Stahl

@properties brings on veteran manager as it expands southward

Co-founders of @properties, Thad Wong and Mike Golden, announced this week that Jacqui Malizia, a south suburb native and industry veteran, has been hired as vice president of brokerage services in the firm’s expansion southward. Malizia previously worked at Coldwell Banker Realty, where she was the managing broker for their Flossmoor office for 17 years.

“Jacqui’s experience and knowledge of the south suburbs will be incredibly valuable to @properties as we expand throughout the region,” said Wong. “She knows this area better than anyone, and her coaching background is a big draw for agents. We’re excited to welcome her to the @properties family.”

Malizia will focus on agent development, office operations and building @properties’ presence in south Chicago and its suburbs.

“I really admire the leadership within @properties and I was eager to be a part of the company’s continued expansion,” said Malizia. “The company’s growth and development culture is a perfect fit with my background and how I work to maximize each agent’s potential.”

Prominent mother-daughter team joins Compass

Compass announced earlier this month that the Hausman Team, headed by mother-and-daughter duo Andee and Rachel Hausman, will be joining them after working with RE/MAX. The Hausman Team will be based out of Compass’ newly opened Arlington Heights office, and will serve the Chicagoland suburbs.

“The most exciting thing for me is getting the ability to offer our buyers and sellers newer tools and services that we didn’t have access to. Being among other top-tier talent in a community environment makes me feel hopeful for the future,” said Rachel Hausman.

B&W expands to northwest Indiana

Last week, Baird & Warner announced it will now serve the Northwest Indiana market. Agents in the firm’s South Loop office who are licensed to work in Indiana and Illinois will work with those in need of Indiana brokerage services, specializing in helping those who work in the Chicago area.

Baird & Warner’s mortgage arm, Key Mortgage Services, will also be available to Indiana homebuyers.

“After helping Chicagoland buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals for 165 years, we know a thing or two about being a good neighbor, so it’s exciting to offer the same dedication, experience and advanced proptech tools to our neighbor to the east,” said Baird & Warner South Loop Designated Managing Broker Nate Thompson. “With this new ability to service buyers and sellers in both states successfully, we’ll be able to make it easier for clients who work in Chicagoland but live in Indiana to find their next home, as well as those looking for a vacation home in Indiana’s many resort towns along Lake Michigan.”

Proper Title promotes Kathy Kwak to executive vice president

Palatine-based title insurance agency Proper Title LLC announced earlier this month that it had promoted Kathy Kwak to executive vice president of operations and counsel and hired Zjacobe Snyder as senior escrow officer for its Loop office.

Kwak has worked in the real estate industry for the past 14 years, spending the last seven in the title insurance industry. She joined Proper Title in 2017, rising from director of title to her new role.

“Kathy has done an outstanding job over the years in building trusted relationships with our attorney clients while also fostering a collaborative culture among staff through a team-management style that employees respond positively to,” Joni Meyerowitz, chief executive officer of Proper Title, said in a press release, noting Kwak’s leadership in guiding the company through changes precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We swiftly adapted when the stay-at-home order began by offering curbside closings and remote notarizations so we could continue serving our clients with the same level of care and attention while social distancing,” said Kwak. “We also were lucky to find and hire Cobe, who is bringing her enthusiasm and attention to detail to our Loop office.”

Synder has worked in the title insurance industry for 25 years, most recently as an escrow officer at Fidelity National Title Insurance Co.
