RE/MAX NEXT expands into Wrigleyville and @properties brings on new team

by Meg White

RE/MAX NEXT acquires RE/MAX Edge office in Wrigleyville

The RE/MAX Edge that’s located at 3916 N. Broadway St. is undergoing a name change. Co-owners of RE/MAX NEXT Mike Opyd and Alejandro Trujillo announced today that they’d be acquiring the office that was, up until recently, led by Mark Zipperer.

The move expands the brand’s footprint to the north, as the original RE/MAX NEXT office is located in the Fulton Market District. “Now, with two offices, RE/MAX NEXT will be able to service clients … from the west side up to the north side,” Opyd, who is also the managing broker of RE/MAX NEXT, said in a statement. “Both companies are built on similar philosophies, making it a natural fit to combine.”

Zipperer, who will stay on as a sales associate at the newly rebranded office, said the move will allow him to focus on his clients. “After deciding to sell my brokerage so that I could focus servicing my growing client business, to me the choice was obvious,” he said, noting he was determined to stay with RE/MAX. “I was most attracted to Mike Opyd’s marketing and technology ideas, high energy, and determination to support the individual needs of his agents.”

Opyd opened up REMAX NEXT in 2017, and today the office has 13 agents working out of the West Loop location. Adding that count to the agents coming over in the acquisition, the brand will number just under 30 associates.

@properties scores new team

Gia Devenyi returned to @properties after a stint at Compass and is now building a team. Gia Chicago was established at @properties as a three-person group in February, and it has since grown to five members total.

“Gia is a consummate professional who brings great energy and a positive attitude to the office each day,” Rick Sobin, @properties designated managing broker and vice president of brokerage services, said about the move. “We are excited that she chose to return to @properties to build and grow her business.”

The team works out of the Gold Coast and East Lincoln Park offices. Devenyi spent five years at @properties before leaving for Compass. In this latest move, she brought Rachel Kitay with her from Compass, but fellow team members came from a variety of other offices. Angeline Brousseau came over from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago, Jim Cesario was most recently with Fulton Grace and Steven Greenspon came from Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty.

“I am excited to mentor and lead a team of agents who come from many backgrounds of the industry, everything from commercial, luxury, property management, and leasing,” Devenyi told Chicago Agent.
