A Decade Ends…A Decade Begins

by Chicago Agent

Can you believe another 10 years has come and gone? The good news is…a decade is ending. The really good news is…a decade is beginning! Not only a whole new year is upon us, but a chance to make a new 10-year plan. Our lives are strung together in little pieces of a larger plan, often 5-year, 10-year or even more long range planning for where we want to be when we “grow up”. The little pieces are important, like fuel stops along the road of life on the way to our final resting place. However, the end game is most important. Where do I want to be at the end of my master plan, both physically and financially.

You are in luck. This new decade brings new opportunity; a do-over or adjustment if you will. The founder of EXIT Realty, Steve Morris, always says we try, fail adjust…try, fail, adjust…try succeed. If what you are doing is not working or needs improvement, adjust it. If the plan is entirely wrong, re-write it. One thing is for sure, the world is constantly changing around you, so stop trying to stay the same and embrace it.

Real Estate is an ever-changing industry. There are hundreds of people telling Realtors what to do and how to do it, yet so few do what they are told. In fact, many new ideas and systems are started but not fully implemented and rarely used long-term. If immediate results are not seen, we tend to dismiss it as a failed attempt. Lucky for us we have variety. You do not need to be a specialist in every area of our industry, nor is it reasonable to think you can be everything to everyone.

The first step is to determine your personality type by using a system like the D.I.S.C. Program. Once you discover what your strength is, customize your marketing, prospecting and service talents accordingly. If you are weak in organization or systems, leverage others to help you with an assistant or a third-party virtual assistant. Do what you do best. Most agents are salespeople…go sell! Leave the details to a qualified assistant that actually enjoys that function and is better suited, it will free you up to focus on your skills which should be making money. This will help you gain control of your schedule as well allowing for a better quality of life. Now get ready for another 10 years!
