Lifelong Renters Salute the Move to Homeownership at Midlane Club in Wadsworth

After decades of frequent moving because of their careers with the U.S. Navy, James and Rebecca Deshazor were finally ready to settle down so James could enjoy his retirement from the service and Rebecca could prepare for hers next year. The couple, along with their two daughters ages 25 and 16, spent months researching areas and homes before selecting Midlane Club, a clubhouse community of single-family homes by J. “Location was important to us as we wanted to be close to my new job at the VA Medical Center and our oldest daughter, both of which are in North Chicago,” said James.

With the help of a Realtor, the Deshazors narrowed their search to Midlane Club, where they chose a maintenance-free single-family home that was already under construction and came with a $9,000 incentive from the builder. Combined with the $8,000 federal home buyer tax credit, the builder incentive let the Deshazors save $17,000 on the price of their home.”

“We had been looking for a new home for the better part of a year, so we knew there were savings to be had, we just had to wait until we found the right home with the right incentive,” said James.

That right home was the Riviera, a two-story home measuring 2,674 square feet with four bedrooms, 2½ baths, a basement and a two-car garage. It is base-priced from $289,900 and is part of the collection of maintenance-free homes at Midlane Club.

Even though the Deshazors bought their home in the summer, they had lived in enough places over the years to appreciate the maintenance-free aspect of their new home this fall and winter.

“At this stage in our lives, it’s nice not to worry about mowing the grass, weeding, raking leaves or shoveling snow,” said James.

The maintenance-free lifestyle of their new home also gives the Deshazors more time to enjoy all of the country club amenities Midlane Club offers, including an 18-hole golf course and driving range, tennis courts, a swimming pool and a clubhouse with a fitness center. “With the move and my new job, life has been kind of hectic, but we look forward to taking advantage of them all,” James said.

And when they’re not spending time with the various amenities outside their home, the Deschazors will be enjoying all the new features inside their home.

“My absolute favorite part of the home is the kitchen,” said James. “We don’t necessarily do a whole lot of cooking, but we love having all this storage. There is a place for every single thing.” Like all homes at Midlane Club, the Deshazors’ kitchen has 42-inch Merillat cabinets and a double oven.

Rebecca said her favorite part of the home is the family room, which was upgraded with a fireplace. “Actually, one of the things I love about the family room is that it opens into the kitchen,” she said.

The second floor of the home was just as appealing to the Deshazors with its spacious master suite, which includes two walk-in closets and a deluxe en suite bath with separate vanities, a compartmentalized toilet and a separate shower and soaking tub.

And just down the hall from their master suite was another bonus – a laundry room. “Having the laundry room so close to our bedroom is much more convenient that what we had in some of our previous homes,” said James. “You can take the laundry straight from the bedrooms to the washing machine. No more dragging it up and down stairs.”

In additional to the Riviera, Midlane Club offers seven other floor plans, including ranch and two-story designs. Priced from the $240,000s, homes range from 2,019 to 3,354 square feet and have two to four bedrooms, two to three baths, basements and attached two- to three-car garages.

Homes come standard with nine-foot first-floor ceilings, oak railings, tray ceilings in master bedrooms, double-bowl vanities in the master baths, and 42-inch Merillat maple cabinets and a double oven in the kitchen.
