Michigan Boulevard District
Metropolitan Tower, home to brand new condominium residences, is located in a landmark building with parkfront and lakefront views that was once known as The Straus Building. The original building was designed by Chicago architects Graham, Anderson, Probst and White, and was built in 1924. Straus’ financial prominence, reflected in the elaborate design of the building, captured the attention of Chicagoans and art critics, and some consider it to be a prominent feature of the city’s skyline. The Straus Building was later sold to a company that would become CNA and in the late 1970s was purchased by a private investor who relocated the Encyclopedia Britannica headquarters to the building. Today, Metropolitan Tower’s lobby retains many of the original finishes, including the cream-colored moldings, marble floors and the brass elevator doors depicting scenes of arts and sciences.
Located in the historic Michigan Boulevard District, Metropolitan Tower is near some of the city’s premier cultural venues, including the Symphony Center, the Art Institute and Millennium Park. The residences are steps away from world-class shopping and restaurants, and some of the homes feature protected views of Lake Michigan, Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain.
Four home styles are available. The Buckingham Townhomes feature an urban rowhouse lifestyle right on Michigan Avenue. These parkside residences feature ceilings up to 11-feet high and floor plans ranging up to 4,000 square feet. The Burnham Residences have large kitchens, high ceilings and a variety of floor plan choices. The Burnham Residences include one- and two-bedroom homes.
The Avenue Residences are condominiums with lake views that are guaranteed unobstructed forever. These homes feature high ceilings and are available as two- and three-bedroom floor plans. The Millennium Penthouses have 360-degree views of the city and encompass full floors. Plans range up to 4,000 square feet and include outdoor terrace space and ceilings up to 15-feet high. Two private elevators serve the Millennium Penthouses.
