Growing up in Wimbledon, England, Lina Shah’s career began in British land law and conveyancing. This was followed by a successful period developing sales and marketing for her family diamond wholesale enterprise. Her husband, convinced her skills would translate, suggested real estate. Shah has now spent nearly 18 years proving that truth, as one of the most prominent real estate agents covering Oak Brook, the surrounding western suburbs and downtown Chicago.
Launching her real estate career right during the 2008 housing crash served as a challenging but highly rewarding initiation. Navigating those early down-market conditions firsthand instilled lasting expertise in strategic asset pricing, complex buyer psychology and pure persistence. The grit resurfaced when she broke her ankle falling down a staircase while showing a listing, then kept working anyway, finishing the pandemic lockdown on crutches and in a mask. Referrals and relocation clients fill her pipeline, drawn by sharp negotiation mixed with an in-depth knowledge of local data and insights.
Coldwell Banker placed Shah among the top 1% of its global network yearly since 2020 through its International President’s Society of Excellence, building on president’s-level honors dating to 2011. Crain’s Chicago Business has named her among the region’s most notable agents every year since 2018, and Chicago magazine has ranked her among its Best of the Best agents across six metro counties.
Shah channels that energy into civic life, serving on the philanthropic committee of the Club of Women of Oak Brook and volunteering with the Assistance League of Chicagoland West and Ronald McDonald House Charities. She served as the club’s president from 2012 to 2014. “Luxury is not a price point,” she says. “It is a level of service and commitment.”
