His people skills and “never-give-up attitude” have propelled Michael Alan Schenk through 25 successful years in the real estate business. The senior mortgage loan officer at Wintrust Mortgage is known for his excellent communication. “I treat my clients like a member of my family,” he explains. “I make sure they are super comfortable with the process. I’m always available to answer any questions and always communicate during and after the loan process.”
Schenk rejects the idea of being a salesman. Instead, he sees himself as a consultant responsible for guiding clients through the twists and turns of the loan process. He prioritizes meeting with clients to understand their goals and help orient them to their next steps.
Schenk’s phone is always turned on. He’s been known to answer calls as late as midnight and as early as 5 a.m. Clients wonder when he finds the time to sleep. Schenk explains that his ability to navigate the ever-changing real estate market and educate his clients about these shifts sets him apart from the competition. “Communication is my best asset,” he says. Schenk points to his selling of $108 million in real estate in 2021 as his biggest recent professional accomplishment. But he’s quick to add that he is always striving to do better. “I always try to find new ways to help my clients and referral sources,” he shares. “I am never satisfied with my current success.” One way he pursues improvement is by training himself in new techniques and skills and keeping an eye out for opportunities that will give his clients an advantage when it comes to winning a home bid or doing more business.
When he’s not meeting with clients or educating himself about market trends, Schenk enjoys cooking and trying new restaurants. He also loves his family and spends time traveling and enjoying movies and TV shows with them.
