Mortgage banking was not on Karth Barr’s radar until a university contact offered him a loan officer position at a start-up mortgage company during his senior year of college. Approaching graduation, he had planned to work on the investment side of the financial markets and had several job opportunities on the table. But plans can change, and his did. In his unexpected role, he discovered a passion for the mortgage industry, especially when he was able to provide clients financial education during the loan process.
“Early in my career, I vowed to become a master within my craft,” says Barr, manager of two offices within the Chicago area for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. “During my 27 years of experience, I have developed a product knowledge skillset that helps me win more business.”
Everything Barr does is aimed at providing an unparalleled level of service and financial education to his clients. Barr’s philosophy is education first, using credit and debt management to build wealth. He has a passion for mortgage banking, specializing in unique home financing situations while focusing on financial education centered around building a strong financial foundation.
What borrowers appreciate most is his attention to detail and his ability to exceed their expectations. To date, he has originated nearly $890 million in residential mortgages, with year-over-year growth regardless of market conditions. Barr has been named one the nation’s top originators by Scotsman Guide, both in units closed and volume funded, for the past two years. He is also ranked in the top 1% nationwide by Mortgage Executive Magazine for 2023.
“My philosophy of education and mentorship has been the key to my business success but surrounding yourself with an ‘A team’ is a must,” he says. “Without my team, none of my accomplishments would have been achieved.”
In January, along with his long-time team operations manager and production partner, Megan Gober, Barr joined Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation to run and grow two offices in the Chicago area.
Barr has developed a true financial approach to mortgage banking that has fueled his passion over the past 27 years. “I absolutely love what I do,” he says.
