Introduced to real estate as a property owner and landlord, Janet Roderick and her husband also ran a small general contracting company and began selling their rehab properties. “It made sense to get my broker license,” she explains. “At first I thought I’d be doing just our own projects, but I fell in love with helping others achieve their real estate goals.” In the industry for 14 years, she has spent the past three years with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate.
A landlord in West Town for 30 years, Roderick and her family lived there for 25 years before moving to North Bronzeville. She continues to represent clients in West Town as well as in Lakeview, Logan Square, Fulton Market, Bronzeville, Evanston and Oak Park. “Because of my time living in Chicago, I know a great deal about many neighborhoods,” she says. “I’ve owned plenty of homes myself, so I understand what the client is going through.”
Known for her dedication, knowledge and availability, Roderick often thinks outside the box to solve any problems that may arise. “I make the buying process go smoother and the selling process demystified,” she says. “I’m very fond of my clients and they know I always have their backs.”
Always ready to find the solution to problems that arise during a sale, Roderick recalls when a client was in a traffic accident the night before a closing and she was able to get a mobile notary to the parking lot of the hospital to get the documents signed, resulting in a successful closing only a few days late.
A past president of Friends of Jones, Roderick has been married 30 years and has four kids and three grandchildren. She recently started a weight-lifting program and continues training her pandemic puppy, Finn. “I am very detailed and research-driven, but a home is not just numbers on a page,” she says. “I am fun to work with, even if I get a bit wonky with the numbers.”
