Chicago Association of Realtors
Chicago Association of Realtors President Bob Floss has had a 38-year real estate career full of accomplishments and milestones, but he believes the legacy he will leave behind is his commitment to education.
“At the end of the Illinois real estate license law transition period, I taught for 21 days straight, including on Easter, and often put in long days, along with the rest of the CAR education staff,” says Floss, who is also the founder of his brokerage, Bob Floss & Son Realty. “I cannot begin to express the appreciation I received from my students.”
He is an experienced educator and past certified instructor for the National Association of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, and Illinois Association of Realtors. He is also the vice chair for Cook County Works, which connects job creation and helps prospective homeowners afford homes, and is also a strong advocate for the Realtors Political Action Committee.
Floss is currently teaching more frequently than working with clients, but is happy to share what he has learned during his career. “I make students feel welcome and tell them that I gain as much from their participation as they gain from me,” he says of his teaching methods. “As a result, my batting average is near 100 percent, in terms of preparing them to pass exams.”
Although he is turning 70 in September, he isn’t slowing down. “My goal is to evolve as a mentor. I’ve done what I need to do and can step back and help cultivate new leaders.”
