Ever since his early childhood, real estate has been a passion for Rafael Murillo. The @properties broker recalls the days he spent assisting his father with remodeling homes. “I really enjoyed picking out the finishes,” he says, “hardwood flooring, tile, paint, kitchen cabinets.” Before making the switch to the real estate business in 2012, Murillo worked in the mortgage industry as a loan officer — an experience that helped him become a more well-rounded real estate broker.

Murillo serves sellers, buyers and renters in downtown Chicago and its surrounding neighborhoods. His specialty is in the luxury real estate market, but he works within many different price ranges. “I have worked with CEOs, athletes and first-time homebuyers,” he says. Although his focus is on downtown, Murillo isn’t afraid to venture into the surrounding communities of Chicagoland to help his clients find the right property. Recently, he traveled to Mount Greenwood to assist a police officer in finding a home.

In order to market to the growing Chinese market, Murillo has partnered with Caimeiju, which allows U.S. real estate agents to market overseas. “All of my listings over $1 million are translated into Chinese by professional linguists, making our properties and company information searchable in China,” he says.

Murillo was named the highest producing co-op broker for luxury rentals at Marquee Block 37 and was featured in Top Agent magazine last October. He was also featured in articles on Crain’s Chicago Business, Mansion Global and Morning News USA. Murillo is a member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing. He says one business accomplishment that stands out to him is leasing a penthouse for $30,000 per month to a Chicago Cubs player.

While some agents shy away from renters to focus on homebuyers, Murillo sees renters as an opportunity to grow his business in the future. His good relationships with renters have led to referrals of more clients including not just renters, but also homebuyers and sellers. “My capability is to connect with my clients on a personal level, building and maintaining good client relationships,” he says. “My goal is to be your Realtor for life.”
