In football, an offensive lineman must be strong, agile and able to work with others — with a shrewd intelligence that allows him to size up the situation quickly and make changes on the move. Former NFL offensive linemen David Porter, now managing partner of The Porter Group, puts those same traits to good use in his real estate career. Upon retiring from the NFL, Porter worked in industrial manufacturing and construction supply for seven years before entering the real estate industry. He embraces the interesting and varied opportunities that present themselves daily. “Brokers have to be able to juggle multiple things simultaneously — closings, showings, inspections, marketing and more,” says Porter, who was named a CAR top producer in 2016. “There’s yet to be a dull moment, and I love it!”

Porter and his team work with various clients in different locations — from a studio in Rogers Park, to a single-family home in Lincoln Park, to a penthouse in the Loop, The Porter Group does it all. Porter’s clients appreciate his team’s proficiency, efficiency and patience. “There’s only one criteria we have for our clients: they have to be committed to working with us. Time frame and price range are not determining factors,” he says.

The Porter Group is on target to exceed their 2016’s sales volume in the first three quarters of 2017. “I’m so proud of their dedication and hard work. I’m humbled that they believed in my vision enough to make it their vision as well,” he says. “The ability to surround myself with great people who love their job is the key to our success.”

Porter is still involved with the NFL through the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), the NFL Alumni (NFLA) and the Retired Professional Football Players of Chicago (RPFPC). Through RPFPC, he sponsors scholarships for college-bound student athletes, and partners with St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research Hospital to help raise money and increase cancer awareness.

When he’s not making the winning play in real estate, Porter enjoys movie nights with his daughters, Alexandra (Alex) and Charlotte (Charlie). His biggest personal accomplishment this year: “getting my kids to try spinach.”
