Amy Duong Kim knows the importance of home because of her parents’ relentless efforts to create one. Her father, a Vietnamese immigrant, came to the U.S. to pave the way for his wife and children to join him, and the family ultimately settled in Wisconsin. Hard work and long hours as an actuarial consultant prepared Duong Kim for the demands of the industry. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, she eventually found that career unfulfilling and sought after one that would inspire and motivate her. “I knew that I wanted flexibility in my career so that I could have a great work-life balance and I also didn’t want to have a boss,” the 10-year industry veteran laughingly recalls. “Little did I know that a career in real estate requires you to be on call all the time, offers little work-life balance and means your client is your boss! It didn’t end up being what I imagined; it’s even better and much more rewarding and thrilling than I could have dreamed possible.”
Duong Kim’s penchant for crunching and analyzing numbers enables her to examine historical property data at a macro level, an ability that clients like traders and finance professionals appreciate. Furthermore, her previous co-ownership of a boutique firm strengthened her knowledge as she learned about residential, commercial and investment sales and purchases to address her clients’ range of needs. “I always tell my clients that they’ve hired me not just to show a property – anyone can do that – but to negotiate and get them the best price whether they’re buying or selling.” That tenacity has yielded Duong Kim a 98 percent list-to- sale price ratio and an average market time of just 41 days. It has also allowed her to close more than $80 million through 250 transactions.
Recognized as one of Chicago’s Top Producers for the past four years as well as being ranked No. 12 for volume of sales at Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty, Duong Kim represents a wide array of clients from first time home buyers to buyers and sellers looking to upgrade their residence. While much of her business has been focused in the west suburbs and city, she is currently expanding to include the North Shore so she can assist those looking both in the city and in the suburbs.
