Coming Out on Top

The top 20 agents in Chicagoland in terms of sales volume comprised 7 percent of Chicagoland’s total sales volume for 2014.

Think about that stat for a minute: almost 10 percent of the sales in all six counties of Chicagoland came from 20 agents. And another great stat: the top 20 agents in Chicagoland also accounted for 3.4 percent of all transactions across all six counties.

How do some agents make it to that level? How can agents consistently come out on top? Anyone at the top will already tell you how – a combination of hard work, perseverance and commitment. Market Leader actually did a study recently that measured the differences between average agents and top producers – who they were, their habits, even the average car each type drove. The difference in their habits make sense for where they are in their business (average or far from it). Check out that infographic on page 16 to see where your habits fall – and what you might want to change to be on your way to becoming a top producer.

“We view the process differently,” says Margie Brooks, a top producer with Baird & Warner and one of the lovely ladies pictured on our cover. “If I’m working with someone on a home sale or purchase, whether it’s $500,000 or $5 million, I am there when they need me. Good agents have to be there. If I don’t answer, there’s a very good reason. People know that about me.”

In 2014, her transactions totaled $38 million, and thus far in 2015, she has already completed $5 million to $7 million in transactions. It’s safe to say she knows what she’s talking about.

A big congratulations to all of Chicagoland’s top producers, especially the top agents in each county (listed on page 19) – keep up the great work!
