T.J. Rubin
Founder and Managing Broker
Fulton Grace Realty
T.J. Rubin is a busy man. In just five years, the founder and managing broker of Fulton Grace Realty has grown his company from a one-man apartment rental service into a diversified real estate firm employing 35 full-time professionals.
“After graduating from Vanderbilt Law School in 2005 and practicing law for three years, I lost my job during the economic downturn,” he says. “With nothing to lose, zero real estate background and a burning desire to succeed, I decided to start a ‘business’ helping landlords fill their vacancies. After many sleepless nights, I earned my first check and was officially reborn as a real estate entrepreneur.”
Rubin orchestrated the company’s move first from his living room to a 750-square-foot office in 2010, and then to a customized 2,800-square-foot office on Halsted Street in 2012. He also recently purchased a 1,800-square-foot commercial space in West Town, which will serve as Fulton Grace’s second location, slated to open late 2014. Rubin credits his legal background for his ability to attract, serve and retain clients, which has resulted in his brokerage’s exponential growth.
“While practicing law, I was trained to provide clients with a higher level of service by communicating frequently, professionally and respectfully,” he says. “Whether practicing law, representing a buyer or managing a real estate firm, effective communication is a key ingredient in building successful relationships.”
Rubin has naturally transitioned from apartment locator/leaser, to property manager, to broker due to changing client demand. He also represents international investors in acquiring Chicago properties, and oversees the property management of nearly 700 single-unit condominiums.
“I lead by example,” Rubin says. “I grew a team of productive sales and rental agents by becoming a top 1 percent producer myself, and then shared my experiences with others. As our team continues to develop, we will continue to grow Fulton Grace.”
