Kelly Sibilsky, Realtor – RE/MAX Unlimited Northwest

Lake Zurich

What was your first job in the realty industry?
Actually, my first job in real estate was as a real estate paralegal. Learning the ins and outs of the real estate transaction from the legal perspective and working with approximately 400-500 clients a year provided me with a knowledge base unlike any other. I became a full time Realtor in 2003.

Who inspires you?
I’m incredibly inspired by Randy Pausch. His “Last Lecture” is a reminder that we may not be able to change the cards we are dealt, but we can control how we play those cards. What a gift he has given the world.

What is your favorite free-time activity?
Besides spending time with my family, I love to take walks with my new puppy, Zoey. I also take time to read every day and enjoy traveling and writing.

How did you learn the business?
Real estate is a hands-on learning experience. You have to be willing to jump right in, ask questions, take classes, read and open yourself up to the possibilities. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

What was your most difficult sale, and how did you succeed?
I’m proud to say that I haven’t had any difficult sales, but I have worked with some difficult people. Remaining calm and professional has been my key to success in those circumstances.

What was your worst job, and what did you learn from it?
I worked for one day at a strawberry farm as a teenager. It was a miserable day. I learned that it’s OK to quit if you really hate something. Life is too short.

Where do you go to network and meet new clients?
Since I don’t like traditional networking, I blog. Blogging is fantastic for networking with other agents around the country, and it increases your search engine optimization so potential clients can find you online. When they have the opportunity to get to know you and how you work through your blog posts, by the time you meet in person you have instant rapport. Blogging is networking in your bunny slippers.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment so far is definitely my 21-year marriage to my wonderful husband. Everything else is just gravy.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Don’t laugh, but I love Chipotle! I’m a cheap date.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Chicago?
I’m drawn to details. The dome of Adler Planetarium, the lions at the Art Institute, the columns at the Museum of Science and Industry and the Tribune tower. It’s too hard to pick a favorite building.

What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a Lexus RX330 and I love it. It’s almost paid off, so next spring I’ll love it even more.

BlackBerry, Palm or paper?
I’m a very visual person and prefer writing things down in my old-fashioned Day-Timer.

What is your favorite city after Chicago?
That’s easy – Venice. It is such a unique and fascinating city.
