The National Association of Realtors (NAR) presented Terese (Terry) Penza, president and CEO of the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors, the 2012 William R. Magel Award of Excellence on November 12. The award honors an individual who has excelled in his or her role as an association executive of a local or state Realtor association.

It is the highest award an associate executive can receive. In the past 29 years, the Magel award has only been presented 26 times, and Penza is the sixth woman to receive it.

“With more than 30 years of service to the real estate industry and Realtor associations, Terry Penza exemplifies the commitment and dedication that is a hallmark of William R. Magel Award recipients,” NAR CEO Dale Stinton said. “I know the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors members and staff, as well as her colleagues across the Realtor family, all join me in congratulating her for this well-deserved recognition.”

Terry Penza’s Achievements

Penza, a resident of Vernon Hills, is considered a mentor for many association executives around the country over the years. She has been with the North Shore-Barrington Association since 1996 and the previous 10 years served associations in central and southern Illinois. She was in the first class of recipients for the Smith Leadership award from the NAR. She also earned her Realtor certified executive(RCE) designation  with the first class of designees and holds the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives.

“I have known Terry for something over 10 years now, and no one I know is more deserving of this recognition,” real estate consultant, Steve Murray, said. “She exemplifies what we define as a great teacher: focused on the mission of her organization, aware of the changes around her, unfailingly upbeat and strong at building relationships with her staff, her members and those with whom she works.”
