What style has come back into fashion that shouldn’t have?
The return of ultra-low-rise jeans might be a style that shouldn’t have made a comeback. While fashion is all about personal expression, I find that this trend, popular in the early 2000s, doesn’t quite align with my love for elegance and polished looks.
What item of clothing gets you the most compliments?
I feel the most confident in my head-to-toe monochrome outfits (suit, shirt, shoes), and generally those fits get the most attention.
What item in your closet do you wear the most?
Since Chicago’s weather is so unpredictable, I keep a really fun oversized jean jacket handy that can go with anything!
What’s the most expensive or meaningful accessory or piece of clothing you’ve ever acquired?
Two of my most cherished pieces of clothing are shirts passed down from my mother and grandmother, both of whom are no longer with us. One shirt is 30 years old, and the other is over 50. Wearing them makes me feel connected to their legacy and reminds me of the strength, love and wisdom they passed down to me.
Where are your favorite clothing stores or brands?
Most of my looks are from small boutiques in Spain. Some other times, I find pieces in vintage stores, Target or Marshalls, and I combine them with items from my closet. Truth is I haven’t really changed size since my teens, and I still keep lots of clothing from the past that I “play with.” If I had a go-to in Chicago, would be Zara.
What fashion accessory do you feel naked without?
My perfume.
What decade or time period had the best fashion, in your opinion?
It is hard to go back and pick one … I would say NOW is my favorite, because I can bring back anything from any decade and make it work. We have such a huge library to grab ideas from.
Does your style reflect your personal brand? If so, how?
Yes, my style absolutely reflects my personal brand. As a Realtor with a global perspective, my style embodies the blend of professionalism and creativity that I bring to my work. The way I incorporate cultural influences, bold colors and unique patterns into my wardrobe mirrors my appreciation for diversity. My statement pieces, whether they are accessories or a signature lipstick, highlight my confidence and individuality. This distinctive style not only sets me apart but also communicates the dynamic and approachable nature of my brand to clients and colleagues alike.
Who is your style icon?
Given my vibrant, globally influenced style and love for colors, patterns and statement pieces, Iris Apfel is an icon to me. Known for her bold fashion choices, fearless use of color and eclectic mix of high and low fashion, she embodies a unique style that transcends trends and embraces individuality. Her approach to fashion, where every piece tells a story and reflects a love for global influences, aligns well with my own style philosophy.
What advice do you have for others dressing in the industry?
Showcase your individuality through your style. Dress with confidence, and let your personality shine with bold choices, impeccable looks and a signature scent. Authenticity and flair will make you unforgettable.
