Aleksandra de Leon Designated Managing Broker, Executive Realty Group

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I started my real estate career right out of college. I went to school to be a social studies teacher and quickly realized that wasn’t right for me. During my final semester student teaching, I was already taking my real estate classes in the evening!

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Poland and moved to the U.S. at a young age. We lived in Chicago and the suburbs, moving every few years. I consider the few years in the town of Wood Dale to be where I “grew up.” It’s funny, my sons have had a totally different childhood, living in the same town their entire life.

What is Chicago’s best-kept secret?
The architectural walking tour. You pass by these amazing buildings all the time, without noticing the details on the exterior or knowing the history behind the world’s first skyscrapers. I’ve never looked at the buildings the same way after this tour!

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
Communication and transparency. When an agent inquires about joining our brokerage, they know exactly how things work and what is expected from both sides. I will tell them upfront if I don’t think we’re the right fit. I love to learn and educate, and agents know they can count on me for support.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Be consistent with your database, and check your target market daily. It can take a few years for your friends and family to see you as a professional, rather than cousin Eddy. Be consistent with your follow-up. Send your monthly newsletter, reach out to talk with your past clients and sphere regularly.

What’s your favorite meal in Chicago?
We are definitely not missing out on dining options in Chicagoland! Suburbs: Santo Cielo in Naperville. City: London House rooftop bar. Both offer the best views and atmosphere!

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
There are no stupid questions, if you don’t know, ask!
