Summer is flying by, twisters and all

by Agent X

This month was wild, y’all — there were twisters in Chicago! Twenty-seven real-life tornadoes touched down in Chicagoland. Not to mention the new movie “Twisters” (which I saw in 4D). And all the general downpours. And the national news, which was also insane. It was not a normal month. But we are not normal, so, naturally, we partied through it all.

First, on July 9, COMPASS debuted its new office in River North with an open-house happy hour. And let me tell you, I was happy as can be, bouncing around the new space with a wineglass (or two) in hand. It was the perfect opportunity to schmooze with some big-shot names — like COMPASS CEO Robert Reffkin, who made an exciting appearance.

@properties Christie’s International Real Estate got the party pumping at its annual summer shindig. This year, it took place July 17 at the Salt Shed. I have to say, I hadn’t been inside the newish venue before, and I was impressed! I grew up driving past that yellow-coated little lady: a true Chicago icon.

Later in the month, some familiar faces — Sarah Jenema and Casey DeClerk — spread their message with the Faces of Fitness Chicago Fitness Festival on July 27 and 28. Acting as official brand ambassadors, Sarah and Casey represented the event, which is apparently known as the “Lollapalooza of Fitness.” I don’t know about you guys, but my definition of Lollapalooza includes multiple ($14) Bud Light Limes and, ideally, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that’s why they have abs and I don’t.

Also that weekend, on July 27, Weinberg Choi Residential hosted its charity golf outing at Wilmette Golf Club. The event included (supposedly) friendly competition, refreshments and prizes, all in support of The Nora Project, an organization that supports disability inclusion. The outing came, somewhat, on the heels of another golf day: The Multi-Board Golf Classic, which took place June 17. It brought together members of NSBAR, NICAR, Heartland REALTOR® Organization and REALTOR® Association of the Fox Valley, and proceeds RPAC. The official title? “Fore! The Future of Real Estate.” Come on, guys; leave the puns to me.

On that note, let’s hard pan over to the August birthdays. (It is a golf term, OK? I looked it up. “Cut” and “fade” would also have worked.)

First up, on Aug. 1, we have birthday twins Benjie Burford and Michael Shenfeld, before a set of birthday triplets on Aug. 3: John Gormley, Jeff Bushaw and Janet Owen. They’re followed by Kevin Grady Aug. 4, Stephanie Andre-Ouellette Aug. 5 and Niko Apostal Aug. 6. Then, on the seventh day, Realtors rested — before celebrating Akos Straub and Maria Munoz Aug. 8. Two days later, on Aug. 10, Mike Bilodeau turns a year older, followed by Debra Dobbs Aug. 12 and both Mimi Mack and Susan Morrow Aug 15. Then there’s a real break before we party for those end-of-summer babies: Dennis J. Papiernik Aug. 21, Adam McLain and Mike LaFido Aug. 23 and Honore Frumentino Aug. 26. Get it all out while you can folks! Believe it or not, this crazy summer is coming to a close. End of round! And yes, that’s another golf reference. Just wanted to DRIVE it home.
