A privately financed, $7 billion megadevelopment will rise around the United Center over the next 10 years. Spearheaded by the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families, owners of the Bulls and Blackhawks, respectively, it’s called the 1901 Project.
The 1901 Project aims to transform the United Center parking lots — totaling more than 13 million square feet — into retail, entertainment, hotel and public space, in addition to housing. It promises 5,000 to 6,000 residential units, 20% of which will be designated as affordable.
The project marks the largest private investment in the city’s West Side to date.
Phase 1, overseen by the Los Angeles-based design firm RIOS, is set to kick off in 2025. Check out renderings from RIOS below.
