Jason Redman, a Navy SEAL, was shot numerous times in Iraq but defied the odds, surviving those injuries and going on to perfect his own philosophy: what he calls the Overcome Mindset. Redman shared his story recently at an event organized by Fairway Independent Mortgage Company.
Over the past few months, Fairway Independent Mortgage Company has hosted three charity events for veterans and Relators alike. The first in Lisle on Aug. 23rd, the second in Crystal Lake on Aug. 24th and the third in Frankfort on Nov. 2nd. Teaming up with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI), the events gave local agents from different brokerages the chance to connect with veterans, better learning more about how to work with them.
Each event lasted four to five hours and offered participating agents time to complete their Continued Education (CE). They also all featured inspirational speakers, like Redman.
One of those speakers was Louise Thaxton, who runs Fairway’s CE program. She spoke about how Relators can best help veterans find their American Dream through homeownership.
Karen Vaughn, another speaker, shared an especially personal story. Vaughn spoke about how her son, Aaron Carson Vaughn, was killed in in action in Afghanistan in 2011; he was a Navy SEAL. Vaughn now travels as a professional speaker.
At each event, there was also a large, surprise donation gifted to a local veteran with funds provided by Fairway and their sponsors.
