See which Chicagoland brokerages are 2023’s ‘Top Workplaces’

by Emily Mack

Every year, the Chicago Tribune ranks Chicagoland’s Top Workplaces — and this year, several residential real estate companies cracked the list.

Working in conjunction with Energage, the results recognize nearly 200 Chicagoland companies from different industries that maintain a high-performance culture. The ranking is based on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey and divided into separate categories: large companies (1,000+ employees), mid-sized companies (250–999 employees) and small companies (few than 250 employees).

Real estate brokerages snagged the No. 1 spot for all three designations.

Among the large companies, real estate firms dominated with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago (BHHS Chicago) coming in at No. 1. It is their fifth year making the list and their third time snagging the coveted No. 1 large spot.

“It is truly an honor to be named the No. 1 Top Workplace in Chicago. I am very proud of our organization and the people that make us us. I love to hear that our agents and employees describe our company culture as one of professionalism and inclusivity,” BHHS Chicago CEO Diane Glass said in a press release. “It shows me that we’re on the right track as an organization.”

Three other brokerages also came in among the top 10 large companies: @properties Christie’s International Real Estate at No. 3, COMPASS at No. 4 and Baird & Warner ranked No. 7. The lender Wintrust Financial Corporation ranked No. 13.

Among midsized companies, Dream Town Real Estate came in at No. 1, followed on the list by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. at No. 3, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Starck Real Estate at No. 4, Kale Realty at No. 7 and Fulton Grace at No. 9. Real People Realty also cracked the top 20 at No. 16.

And among small companies, another real estate firm topped the list. john greene Realtor ranked No. 1 followed by several other real estate companies: Proper Title came at No. 24, Sterling Bay at No. 26, Compass Mortgage Inc. at No. 51, First Centennial Mortgage Corporation at No. 58 and PulteGroup at No. 66.
