This annual survey is our chance to hear from a cross-section of real estate professionals in Chicagoland to find out what’s happening in our industry. We collect results from our readers and compile information on demographics, compensation, client profiles, training, marketing and more for a clearer picture of the real estate market — and the Truth About Agents.
Comparing the survey results with previous years allows us to add context to the numbers. We’ve found, for example, more pessimism about expected income than last year. And we found it interesting that managing brokers and agents have different training priorities. Managers want training for their agents in lead generation, while agents say their top training priority is tech help, according to the survey.
“It’s all about technology right now,” said Thomas Downing, VP of brokerage services and managing broker for the Winnetka office of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate.
Downing got a preview of some of the takeaways in this year’s Truth About Agents survey and found agents’ views on training of particular interest.
“That was kind of gratifying to be honest because we really have spent so much time beefing up technology,” he said. “When we offer tech support or we’re doing tech training or doing tech concierge services, our agents really respond.”
The results presented here are reported from Chicago Agent magazine’s 2023 reader survey. This survey was filled out by Chicago Agent magazine readers in February and March 2023.
