Next phase of Southbank, The Reed, set for Printers Row

by Will Mendelson

International property and investments group Lendlease on Dec. 16 announced The Reed, a 41-story luxury residential high-rise located at 234 W. Polk St., as the next phase of its Southbank development in Chicago’s Printers Row neighborhood. The new building will feature 216 luxury condominiums on its upper floors, marking the second residential tower in Southbank — centered around two acres of public green space, known as Southbank Park, along the South Branch of the Chicago River.

Condo layouts include one-, two- and three-bedroom plans priced from the $390,000s, ranging in size from 630 to 1,670 square feet. Occupying floors 23 to 41 of the tower, The Reed’s condos feature floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the skyline, Lake Michigan and Chicago River, as well as Southbank Park. The tower’s interiors pay homage to the neighborhood, with concrete ceilings and metal finishing throughout residences. The Reed also features a 12,000-square-foot outdoor amenity deck on the eighth floor overlooking Southbank Park.

We are excited to finally bring our latest marketing and sales assignment to market in a few short weeks,” David Wolf, president & CEO of Wolf Development Strategies, told Chicago Agent magazine. “The Reed at Southbank, by Lendlease is a game-changer for Chicago — offering luxury, new construction condos, starting at $390,000 with condominiums starting on the 23rd floor that offers views for days. The natural amenities at Southbank on the river gives residents access to the river walk, a 2 acre park and amphitheater seating. The Reed is also a short walk to the Loop, New Post Office and Printer’s Row.”

Residences will also feature low-flow plumbing fixtures, Energy Star-rated water heaters, Energy Star-certified refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers, Smart thermostat technology with occupancy sensing and scheduling functionality, and heating and cooling equipment efficiency rated 10% higher than the code minimum.
