Principles – Sutherland Pearsall Development Corp.
Background:
Mark Sutherland began his career in real estate in the early 1990s. He initially started out buying, rehabbing and selling a number of HUD houses part time and at night, while at the same time working in a sales position. Sutherland then began working for a general contractor and eventually started developing buildings from the ground up.
Alex Pearsall, who at the time was managing a popular Chicago restaurant, was simultaneously completing the second renovation of his own home. He found that he enjoyed the renovation work more than his day job and became hooked. When he and Sutherland were introduced by a mutual friend, both were ready to make real estate their primary career focus. In 1995, they formed Sutherland Pearsall Development Corp.
Today, Sutherland Pearsall is a residential developer and general contractor specializing in both low-rise and high-rise condominium buildings, townhomes and single-family homes in Chicago. They have done a number of historic renovations and have won several awards from Chicago Landmarks.
