“Do what others aren’t willing to do for five years, and you’ll do what others can’t for the rest of your life.” Melissa Govedarica lives by this professional motto, which exemplifies her career trajectory over the past 24 years. She has spent the past two-plus decades perfecting her expertise as a Chicagoland Realtor and her many awards attest to her hard work. The Chicago Association of Realtors has ranked her among its top 1 percent of producers each of the past 10 years and awarded her its Chicago Good Neighbor Award five times. She is also a founding member of the National Association of Realtors Green Designation, the organization’s only confirmed real estate designation for professionals who want to learn about energy efficiency and sustainability.

Motivated to ensure her clients’ satisfaction as much as she is to enhance her level of production, Govedarica specializes in new construction residential sales for single-family, multifamily and mixed-use developments. In addition, she is particularly skilled in off-market land acquisitions for residential development and investment sales. Her career began in the late 1980s in the suburbs of Oak Brook and Hinsdale, both of which boomed at the time with new home construction in gated subdivisions. “I was very young and I soaked up anything and everything I could learn like a sponge!” she laughs when thinking about her early years in the industry. “I learned from some of the greats in our business, and thanks to them, I honed my skills in high- end sales, buyer expectations and marketing.” Those lessons learned are why, for example, she was able to broker a very large land acquisition recently for a 72-unit, multifamily property. And they are why clients count her as a friend even after they leave the closing table.

Additionally, Govedarica’s relationship-building talent is evident in her willingness to mentor newcomers to the industry. “I’m the mom of four adult children, so my natural instinct is helping out young people when I can because I can’t help but take pride in their success.”

Watching her children become happy, productive and successful is one of Govedarica’s greatest joys. She also loves her close circle of friends, traveling and the outdoors. Even when life throws a curveball, she is ready and willing
to meet the challenge head-on with dignity and a resolve to see things through to the end. “I didn’t invent the rainy day; I just own the best umbrella,” she jokes. “I heard that quote in a movie and loved it.” It is that attitude clients can trust to ensure they fulfill their real estate goals.
