Amy Duong Kim
Real Estate Broker Associate
Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty
Amy Duong Kim is addicted to real estate, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign alumna proudly admits it.
“My career before real estate involved using my degree in Actuarial Science,” she says. “It’s a scientific fact that certain individuals excel more in mathematics because of the endorphins that are released after solving a problem. That is how real estate is for me. After a difficult negotiation or a challenging closing, the reward feels so great. It’s addictive and keeps me going.”
Kim’s healthy addiction began in 2005 when she joined her family’s boutique brokerage. The next year, she became the firm’s managing broker, and in 2013, after grooming her small yet talented team, they joined Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty.
“When I started my career, I was working with my brother, who was selling $5 million in the 1990s,” she says. “Back then, average prices were in the $100,000s. Having that kind of successful mentor from the get-go was imperative for me.”
Kim has similarly become no stranger to success. She’s been recognized as one of Chicago Association of Realtors’ top producers, as well as one of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty’s top producers. Kim sold $12 million in 2013 and is on track to exceed $30 million this year.
“It’s a crazy market! Eight of my 15 transactions are on the sale side, and the average list time was less than seven days,” she says. “If you price correctly, inventory will sell.”
A consistently recognized “go-getter,” Kim has a multifaceted marketing approach. She chose to focus on Web marketing early on and became a designated e-Pro through the National Association of Realtors. Although she’s a digital wizard, she places a high value on face-to-face interaction.
“I believe this should be a fun experience for all parties involved, so I try to maintain a causal and enjoyable atmosphere,” she says. “My team consistently receives positive reviews on social media because we treat every sale like it’s our own, and my clients continue to use and refer me because I make them feel like they are my only client.”
