As CMK Realty’s vice president of business development, Heather Gustafson is one of the most influential people in Chicago’s development scene.

“My primary focus is creating and executing sales and marketing strategies for residential new construction developments,” she says. “Most recently, Basecamp River North, which is a 47-unit rowhome development, sold out prior to breaking ground! Working everyday with great architecture and with developers who are changing Chicago’s landscape is a treat.”

Gustafson, though, wasn’t always all architecture and construction. She actually began her career at the Four Seasons Hotels, which taught her that service must always be the top priority. Her approach helps get deals done smoothly, and creates a positive experience for everyone involved in the transaction.

“It’s five-star service from start to finish,” she says. “I really don’t know another way! Calls and emails are returned quickly, and I use a car service when showing buyers so I can focus on the client, not the traffic and parking meters. Outside of servicing the customer, I believe in respecting the other professionals we are cooperating with during a transaction. My mantra is, ‘Do the next thing right, and the right thing next.’”

Gustafson also makes time to serve as a trustee for the Chicago Association of Realtors Education Foundation, and is secretary for the Illinois Women’s Council of Realtors. Last year, she received the Chicago Women’s Council of Realtors honorable Member of the Year award (she is a former president of the organization, as well), and mentors through the Goldie B. Wolfe Miller Women Leaders in Real Estate Initiative.
