Scott Ottenheimer Licensed Managing Broker

Ottenheimer Group | Baird & Warner, Glenview

What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
Strategy & Management Consulting. I saw how multiple businesses operated and where there were opportunities to improve by leveraging data. I bring this analytical skill set to real estate.

Growing up, what did you want to be?
Growing up in Buffalo Grove, I wanted to be a professional basketball player. Then I realized that would never happen! I thought I wanted to be a lawyer but ultimately ended up in corporate america before making the leap into real estate.

If you could meet any well-known figure, who would it be?
Good question. I love politics, so probably George Washington. I would love to know what he thinks about the political environment today.

What do you love most about the industry?
I love the opportunity to advise a range of clients, from investors to first-time homebuyers.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
My corporate background yields a unique approach to real estate; the use of fact-based analytics allows my clients to make informed decisions and provides us an advantage while negotiating deals.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Working with clients who are going through hard times is always a challenge. Whether it be death or divorce, I empathize with my clients and want to make sure I make their lives easier while they are going through tough times.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
I had the opportunity to work with the FBI. Details are on a need-to-know basis. 😉

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
Put yourself out there. Meet as many people as you can. Show genuine interest in them and offer to help anyone that you can, regardless as to whether or not it benefits you.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
Nothing at the moment, but I’m excited for Indiana Hoosiers basketball season to start.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
Let’s just put it this way, sometimes people leave out things that are very inappropriate.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?
Taking the risk to leave a high-paying corporate leadership job to invest in myself and start my real estate team.
