NAR Chief Legal Officer Katie Johnson steps down

by Emily Mack

Katie Johnson, who serves as the chief legal officer and chief member experience officer for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), is stepping down. NAR let members know in an email sent Oct. 1.

Her last day will be Oct. 4.

Johnson has spent 17 years total working at the association. She’s been chief legal officer for nearly two years. Before taking on that role in 2023, she served as general counsel.

“In her nearly two decades at the association, Katie has been steadfast in her commitment to fulfilling NAR’s mission to expanding access to homeownership to all Americans,” NAR CEO Nykia Wright said in the email. “We are grateful for her service and her many contributions over the years.”

“As we make this transition, our priority is ensuring business continuity and remaining laser focused on shepherding NAR through this time of significant industry change,” a NAR spokesperson shared in a separate statement.

In the meantime, NAR said members can direct legal concerns to NAR General Counsel Lesley Muchow and member experience concerns to Kate Moore. They also said they will be hiring additional outside counsel this week to focus on risk assessment.

NAR’s chief legal officers compensation… CRAZY… they should have moved her along a few years ago.
