Be brave, tackle that new tech and build your agent toolkit

by Patrick Regan

Learning new tech often comes with trial, error and mishaps. For some, the instinct is to absorb just enough to get by and avoid mastering yet another new social media platform, video editing system or AI image generator. In fact, I know a successful guy who happily worked well past the typical retirement age, until his company announced plans to train all employees on a new computer system. No thanks, I’ll just retire instead, he said.

Most of us are not in a position to just walk away when presented with the latest tech innovation. As Nicole Konsler, vice president of pl@tform education for @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, writes in this month’s Top Coach column, tech is not something to fear. Tackle it, add to your skill set and become a better agent.

In this issue, we examine real estate tech and present tips for everyone from those just beginning to those with years of tech savvy and expertise. If you’re just dipping your toe into the social media waters, take a look at Senior Editor Emily Mack’s how-to guide for relative beginners. If you’re beyond the basics and ready for more, check out the slew of tips in this month’s cover story, from Carrie Little of CarMarc Realty and Lauren Shimmon of Dream Town Real Estate. Also, Matt Laricy shares insights from his real estate podcast, and we look at AI tools to help listings photos.

There’s plenty of non-tech news this month as well. If you’re looking for a jolt of optimism about the industry, read our report on the recent comments from Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®. Speaking in Washington, D.C., Yun predicted home sales would increase in the second half of this year and during eight of the next 10 years.
