Last week, we reported that home sales in Chicagoland closed out 2014 on a disappointing note; what suburban markets, though, saw the most home sales activity in December?

To find out, we dug through fresh numbers from Redfin’s Market Tracker, and we found some interesting trends at work:

• As was the case in November, Aurora came out on top with 158 home sales.
• Many of the suburbs in the top 10 saw their home sales rise from November to December; Joliet, for instance, saw its sales rise 21.8 percent, while sales also rose in Naperville (by 20.83 percent), Des Plaines (27.14 percent) and Schaumburg (by 28.17 percent).
• Of the top-selling suburbs, sales are up 13 percent.
• Even among Chicagoland’s top suburbs, though, inventory remains a problem; at 4,997 listings, inventory was down 9.9 percent from November.
