LeapRE found that 15.67 percent of properties in the Chicagoland area have hosted open houses so far in 2012. It also appears that most open houses, 58.6 percent, occur on Sunday, then Tuesday (18.7 percent), and then Saturday (7.6 percent). Why Tuesday? Our assumption is that Tuesday is a popular day for agents to hold brokers opens, and therefore, they open the property up to the public while it still looks its best.
On a monthly basis, LeapRE found that, historically, most open houses have occurred in March by this time of year, making 2012 an oddity as an April-centric open house year, with 18 percent of open houses happening that month. Maybe April pulled ahead this year because of Realtor.com’s Nationwide Open House Weekend on April 28 and 29?
